Accessible Sunset Beach
Getting onto the sand.
The Town rents SurfChairs and beach walkers and delivers them on the island. Its beach access page lists four handicap-accessible walkways. Here is how the rental works and where those walkways are.
The blue pins are the accesses the Town marks Handicap. Sand, slope and routes can change, so check on arrival.

SurfChairs & beach walkers
How the Town's rental works.
- Apply online at least 36 hours ahead, on the Town's Beach SurfChairs & Walkers page, then pay at the Town's payments page. $10 a day from July 1, 2026.
- The Town delivers inside the town limits. Deliveries 8 am to noon; pickups from 2 pm. No deliveries on weekends or holidays, so plan a Friday drop-off for the weekend.

Moving it yourself? The Town gives the chair as 23" wide and 45" tall, and says it needs a large SUV, a pickup or a van.
Beach mats: the Town's pages don't mention beach mats, so we don't list any. The beach itself is closed to every kind of vehicle, e-bikes included.
Handicap-accessible beach walkways
The 4 blue accesses
Listed west to east, as marked on the Town's Beach Access Points map. The Gazebo lot (4 handicap spaces) and the Street Scape lot (4 handicap spaces) sit near the Gazebo and 1st St. walkways.
Off the beach: Sunset Beach Town Park on the waterway, 206 Sunset Blvd. N., has a boardwalk, a fishing pier, a picnic shelter and restrooms. It's on the Things to Do page.
